Celebrate International Women’s Day

“A wise woman wishes to be no one’s enemy; a wise woman refuses to be anyone’s victim.” – Maya Angelou

For over a century, International Women’s Day has been held on 8 March each year; a day to celebrate and advocate for women’s rights and equality around the world.

Whether your team is based in the office or working remotely, it’s important to celebrate events like International Women’s Day meaningfully by honoring women’s achievements, challenging biases or supporting women-owned businesses

Here are some things you can do:

1 . #BreakTheBias and show your support on social

This year’s official International Women’s Day theme is #BreakTheBias. It’s a call-to-action to challenge by raising awareness against bias, celebrating women’s achievement, and taking action for equality.

One simple, yet impactful way to celebrate International Women’s Day this year is to show your commitment to challenging by taking part in the #BreakTheBias social media campaign. Take a photo of yourself crossing your hands in an X and share it on your preferred social media platform(s) using #BreakTheBias.

2. Set up a (virtual) coffee date with a woman in your network

Sometimes, the best way to get inspired or learn something new is through a simple conversation.

This March, try asking a woman in your network on a “virtual coffee date”  to discuss their career, experiences overcoming workplace bias, leadership, or any other topics of personal interest.

3. Acknowledge the awesome women in your life

Sometimes, simple words of encouragement and love can go a long way in lifting someone up and inspiring them to keep going. Whether it’s your mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, girlfriend, or friend – send a text, call or Facetime an important woman in your life to let them know how awesome they are.

4. Support women-owned businesses

Supporting businesses that are owned and operated by a woman. Women-owned businesses receive just 7% of venture funds for their startups, and women ask for roughly $35,000 less in business financing than men. They need all the support we can get!
