Need to Hold Dirt? Need to Hold Soil in Your yard?

Holding dirt in place can be important for preventing erosion and maintaining the stability of the land. Building a concrete retaining wall is a common method used to hold dirt in place.

Concrete retaining walls are durable, long-lasting, and provide strong support for holding back soil.

Here are some reasons why building a concrete retaining wall may be a good option for holding dirt in place:
    1. Strength and Durability: Concrete is a strong and durable material that can withstand the pressure from the soil behind it. It is resistant to weathering and erosion, making it a reliable choice for retaining walls.
    2. Stability: A properly designed and constructed concrete retaining wall can provide stability to the soil, preventing erosion and landslides.
    3. Versatility: Concrete retaining walls can be customized to fit the specific needs and aesthetic preferences of the site. They can be built in various shapes, sizes, and designs to complement the surrounding landscape.
    4. Low Maintenance: Once a concrete retaining wall is in place, it typically requires minimal maintenance compared to other types of retaining walls. This can save time and effort in the long run.

Do You Know what’s mono slab wall?

A mono slab wall refers to a type of foundation where the concrete slab serves both as the floor of the building and the foundation of the walls. In contrast, a footing wall involves a separate footing or foundation that supports the walls of the building. The main difference lies in the structural design and load-bearing capacity of the foundation system. The choice between a mono slab wall and a footing wall depends on factors like soil conditions, building design, and local building codes, let us help you for free with suggesting what’s best option for you 604-700-4436

To build a concrete retaining wall

Must Prepare the Site: Clear the area where the wall will be constructed. Mark the layout of the wall and footings using stakes and string to ensure proper alignment.

Excavate the Footing: Dig a trench for the footings that is wider than the wall thickness and deep enough to reach below the frost line in your area. The footing provides a stable base for the wall.

Install Reinforcement: Place rebar or wire mesh in the footing trench to add strength to the concrete. Make sure the reinforcement is properly supported and elevated off the ground.

Formwork: Install formwork to define the shape of the wall and footings. Make sure the formwork is secure and properly aligned.

Pour Concrete: Pour concrete into the footing trench and around the formwork for the wall. Use a concrete mixer to ensure the concrete is properly mixed.

Add Concrete Wall Sections: As the concrete is being poured for the footings, build up the wall sections simultaneously. Use additional formwork to contain the concrete for the wall sections.

Consolidate and Finish:* Consolidate the concrete using a vibrator to remove air bubbles and ensure a strong bond. Finish the surface of the wall and footings as desired.

Cure the Concrete: Allow the concrete to cure and strengthen over the next few days. Keep the concrete moist to prevent it from drying out too quickly.

Remove Formwork:* Once the concrete has cured, carefully remove the formwork from the wall and footings.

    Concrete Wall & Retaining Walls

Retaining walls are structures designed to hold back soil and prevent erosion. Concrete is a popular material for retaining walls because of its durability and strength.

Here are some basic tips for retaining concrete walls:

Proper design: It’s important to design the retaining wall properly based on the height of the wall, the type of soil, drainage considerations, and local building codes.

Quality construction: The wall should also be reinforced with steel bars or mesh for added strength, and have footings as needed.

Drainage: Proper drainage is essential to prevent water buildup behind the wall, which can cause pressure and potentially lead to failure. Consider including weep holes, drainage pipes, or gravel backfill to help water flow away from the wall.
